Postby LAMAHORSE » Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:20 am

Hi everyone,

I have finaly received my HIROBO LAMA SA-315B MRB-III helicopter Rc kit from Japan. This project will be done as a full scale details machine that I will build over the winter season 2008-09. If all goes well, I should be flying this beast by next summer 2009 as a electric conversion. I will be using this album & post here to up-load my build process of the LAMA SA-315B in the follow months to come. More photoshooting will be add soon here to cover the build I will do...

Finaly that built "D" day as arrived...

On August 8.2008 was the day I have order the LAMA SA 315b from Hirobo Japan. It as arrived in my city on the early september month at my distributor and since was waiting in my built area bench.

As I did'nt want to built it while I was busy with my career,, now it looks like a good time to start my LAMA SA-315B (fully scale project) as summer and nice day are over and more stuff are done inside the house as hobby times goes...

Yea early morning here,,

All grey and rain with wind,, I'll breakfast then go to the store to pick-up some specialize grease and silicone to build the LAMA SA-315B. I have open the big parts bag and will do the start with a slowly way on the project today. One thing I can say,, those parts in the LAMA SA-315B kit are a real ball to look at,, and they are really well done as far as I can see.

The MRB-III RotorHead system part is looking very cool,, and heavy too. I had to see that part,,, The MRB-III is one of the main parts of that wonderfull LAMA SA-315B & is a amazing diamond,, WOw.

First part to be build is the (Elevator, aileron lever assembly) it look easy to built with very small phillips screw driver. No glue is to be apply in that assembly part but as my mentor Instructor (A MASTER) as advise me,, is to use and apply silicon with a tooth pick where the metal screw goes into the plastic part. That way it will remain fit and tight and vibration free. This way is mutch better then using the CA application process. My mentor as done this process on all his helicopters,, so I'll take that route that have been tested and remain a secure methode to do.

So finaly I'll begin this project today...
And will be hand fully loaded all winter with that scale project...

Hi Bill,
I got my LAMA SA-315B from a Montreal (In Canada) distributor name UDISCO...
https://www.udisco.com/hobbies/index.htm

In the USA, here is the one that as them,,, LAMA SA-315B
http://www.modelrectifier.com/search/product-view.asp?ID=1127

My LAMA SA-315B is with the scale MRB-III RotorHead system, and is a little more expenssive then the 2 blades version,
but is a most if your going fully scale. It is worth the expence as I see it now.

A well done product and well packages are made with care,,, that show's when you open the box, with all those small (control of quality) approval confirm TAG in each bags. It is for sure a good first heli product for my part till now... Now back to my built bench...

Built process of my LAMA SA-315B/
First parts: (Elevator, aileron lever assembly)

First part to be build is the (Elevator, aileron lever assembly) it look easy to built with very small phillips screw driver. No glue is to be apply in that assembly part but as my mentor Instructor (A MASTER) as advise me,, is to use and apply silicon with a tooth pick where the metal screw goes into the plastic part. That way it will remain fit and tight and vibration free. This way is mutch better then using the CA application process. My mentor as done this process on all his helicopters,, so I'll take that route that have been tested and remain a secure methode to do.

The Elevator, aileron lever assembly was completed last night and all look okay and fine. For my first time building a Heli, I can say it was a little slow, but I follow the instruction from the manual and it was a ease to do with some pause in betwen process. Photos will follow...

Last night I have done the (clutch bell assembly) parts.
I have'nt apply the grease on the shaft yiet, as I need to test some grease that will be apply on this part. This assembly was just great to do and all parts are just fitting great together with ease.

The part 3 assembly instruction process will not be done, as this part is about the (fuel tank assembly) and for my part I will not need this process as I will powerplant this LAMA with a electric conversion.

Yea George finaly a start,

I'm going slow action on that project, & I'm enjoying this new challenge with helicopter in my life.
Feel free to jump in anytime George, and help out with my built of this LAMA SA-315B if you see anything I should know befort I proceed.
Nice to see you around buddy!

On the roll towards Part 4: Main frame assembly...
That one will be a little tricky. As I have to fit and ajust the clutch bell part into the main frame part. I mite have to file a little, (as HIROBO advise us to do) but till now it look fine with the clutch bell test fit, maybe a little file I'll have to do. For the next fiew days I'll be on that issue & making.

I have done a little last night,,

I have join the 2 parts of the main frame together to see if they fit well together, and they did.
I had to file the plastic of the frame at some specific location, and did cover both shaft with special grease where the bearing are in contact with the shaft. All bearing fit just fine in their main frame cavities and need to be fitting tight and right. They are now.

The long srew's with the nut's are in and tight,, and the next step is to unsrew a little the nut's and have a drop of lock thread blue glue in a small portion of the nut's space in there and then screw them tight again for final join of the main frame parts together.

Then will follow the small screw's that goes into the plastic part of the frame, that will be join with some silicon so the srew's remain in position with out any chaces to unsrew with the vibration of the helicopter.

The main frame Part 4# is completed.

The screw's with the nut's and metal contact are glue with the blue glue thread lock and the small screw's into plastic are join with silicon and are tight and fine into their location. Was a little challenging at time while working my screw's in, everything had to be straight, they are now...

Part 5# (Collective pitch lever) is done half way, these parts will come on the main frame later on...

Have done last night the Part 6# (Servo frame assembly) that was done in a ease with the screw's going into plastic and add some silicon also. Everything fit so perfectly with this kit LAMA that till now I am very satisfy about this product and the way the manual is done,, very hight quality in all...

Well some up-date on my work with the LAMA SA-315B

Did have some time to my self yesterday and roll down on the built.
Some parts are not silicon yiet and not (blue thread lock glue). I am just making the srew's holding the parts together for now. As I want to see the fit and ajustment betwen them. Till now it is nice to do that helicopter and I am getting good at it. Will do some other parts this week-end and will come back on the parts that are not silicon and tight fit yiet.

Many parts will only be hold together on stand-by, as I will have to paint my helicopter parts later. That is the main reason I dont final fit the parts yiet...

Part 5# (Collective pitch lever) is done and into proper location area. The both shaft are been grease and done for now,, but the screw's are not yiet glue with (thread lock) and will see if all assemble parts fit's together on the mechanic MRB-III system befort applying the final thread lock glue...

I have finish the (servo frame assembly Part 6#) and did sillicon all small screw's and metal screw's with nut's with thread lock glue.

Part 7# (engine assemble) will be done later and as soon as I have choose the electric powerplant that will power the LAMA.

Part 8# engine installation) as been done,, it is a metal plate under the LAMA belly,, but the screw's have not been silicon yiet.

Part 9# (landing gear installation) have been done,, but the screw's have not been silicon yiet.

Part 10# (main mechanic gear installation) as been also done and fit into proper location,, but have'nt apply the grease on the shaft and have not done the thread lock glue on the lock bolt of the shaft. all fit perfectly,,

Presently working on Part 11-1# of the MRB-III Scale RotorHead system right now,, will keep you up-date on my going,, on a later note...

Wash-out assemble as been done and fit tested. Will hold them together with silicon befort final assembly of the MRB-III RotorHead system.

I am at the Part 18# (tail unit assembly) and have grease the (2) shafts and gears, bearings in the tail gear plate. Silicon the (3) screw's.

Right now on the tail housing section with the thrust bearing section parts and I see that the bearing are going into eachother in some carve or cavities in betwen plates cover. I wonder what is the best effective way those bearing are going in position betwen those (2) plates for torque pressure issues on the tail housing section?

One way or the other I can do them and are saying in the instruction manual,,, but what side of a bearing can be at the base of the (tail housing section is the question)?,,, the carve side full view bearing or the almost cover plate bearing side?

What it meen is that bearing have a side that the ball bearing are all covered at 80% by a gold plate and the other side is not covered at all and we see all the ball bearing into the cavitie or carve plate side.

And they are pressure issues on each working torque side of the mechanical part (tail Rotor)...
Is both side of the bearing gold plate can take the same amount of pressure,, that is the real question...

This last post issue as been resolved...

Any side of those bearing can be apply on, as the pressure is equal on both of them with the rotor pressure... Answer from my mentor helicopter pilot buddy....

Now back to the build of the LAMA...

Let me ruin your day :fro:

Fit the cup side of the bearing carrier to the inside so when you fill it with grease (you did fill it with grease didn't you?) it will stay in longer. If you fit the bearing carrier the other way round all the grease will fly out under centrifugal force.

Adding to Peter's post, one of the grooved washers will (should) have a slightly smaller centre hole than the other. That goes to the outside, next to the nut.

Peter,Charles,, thanks.

One of the grooved washers will (should) have a slightly smaller centre hole than the other. That goes to the outside, next to the nut.

The hole are the same size and none is smaller then the other one... No differences betwen them,, on grooved or center hole...
I will put the smaller size bearing exposure facing on the outside, next to the nut,,, and open size bearings will be inner towards the bottom tail housing section in those bottom groove silver plate washer. Yea not to forget the grease in the bearing,, that should be fine now...

After checking those silver plates groove and center hole,,,

I have found that one is smaller then the other one... By test them on the housing section...
Thanks again to have advise me on that issue,,, you guy's were right !

Now I will have to get them together inside the housing plastic plates. Did cover my bearing with grease and will have to tight the lock nut bolt befort closing it down. I will fit the bolt so it is not to tight so the rotor bearing turn freely,,, but not to freely,,, just anought that my blades get the freely rotation action on the bearings...

As long as that grease was clean, it will all be fine.

As rcadd1ct says, tighten that nut. The grooved washer next to the nut doesn't turn. That's why you put the smaller (centre-hole) washer at the end.

Hey Lama, looking good. I see you take your time and do a very thorough and meticulous job. I had asked earlier where to buy one of these and I have found where to by the kit and the scale head. I was wondering about your electric conversion, are you building your own electiric conversion, or is there a conversion kit available for the Lama?

Thanks for your input guy's...

My tail housing as broke...
Called my distributor on that part and he as it,, will pick-up today...

Well I mite have over tight the lock nut on that one,,, will have to be more careful on those small parts in the future...
I will see with my distributor (HIROBO) flyer builder how to do this the right way for the second time around...

Hi Bill,
I still have to see on that issue (electric conversion) what will be my powerplant. I did see that LAMA with a electric conversion and saw the video of how it was flying, and it was just perfect...

Here is the guy in my area who as inspired me to go for the LAMA SA-315B Electric...
http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/gallery/34346/?script=Lama_E

The system this guy is using seem reliable and I plan till now to follow what he as done,, but again I mite follow other route...
Will see on a later note on that powerplant issues and will add here in the future my way I will choose...

Bill have you got your LAMA SA-315B from the dealers I have mention to you?
And yea Bill, I go slow on the scale build issues way to do, is that what is the hobby all about...

Ooops.

Yep, that would be to tight.

Not much TQ is needed on a 3mm nut.

Snug it up pretty good and let the lock part of the nut do it's job.

That reminds me. You are using blue loctite on all metal to metal hardware, right?
